Demi Lovato On Voting For Hillary Clinton: “Her Being A Woman Is Just A Bonus”
On Thursday, Lovato participated in a rally for Clinton at the University of Iowa, taking the stage in front of the presidential candidate’s college-aged backers. The pop star gave Clinton a hearty endorsement, along with a mini-concert that included her hit, “Confident.” And Lovato told the crowd she doesn’t believe there’s a “woman more confident than Hillary Clinton.”
Clinton, of course, made an appearance, too, and noted that one of the issues they have common ground on is mental health. “She’s using her voice to reach out to so many people who need a little bit of help themselves,” the former First Lady said of the singer. Lovato went on to make clear in an Instagram post on Friday that she’s voting for Clinton for political reasons, not simply because she wants to see a female in the White House.
“I couldn’t have been more excited to support such a courageous, loving and #CONFIDENT woman in Iowa last night,” the star began. “Thank you @hillaryclinton for having me.. It was an honor to share the stage with you in your campaign to become the FIRST WOMAN PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!!!! You have my vote!!!”
After using the hashtags “@HillaryForIA #ImWithHer #voteforhillary,” Lovato added in parentheses, “Btw her being a woman is just a bonus.. Not the reasoning behind my decision.” As Gossip Cop reported at the time, she also performed at Clinton’s birthday party last October.
Lovato’s new celebratory post about Clinton received mixed reactions from fans. One follower commented, “Gosh Demi I love you so much but your political views are awful. She will destroy this country already worse than it is.” On the other side, another person wrote, “Guuuuyyyysss, leave her alone. You can’t be disappointed with or hating on her political views. She’s still an amazing person. Just chill.” The singer hasn’t responded to any of the reaction.
