Demi Lovato Grammys Video: Watch Lionel Richie Tribute With Meghan Trainor, John Legend And Luke Bryan Here!
The medley performance marked Lovato’s first time getting to sing on the Grammys stage, and it was Trainor’s inaugural performance as well. Lovato took on Richie’s classic song “Hello,” while Trainor, a nominee tonight for Best New Artist, sang “You Are.” But the Recording Academy made sure it wasn’t just pop stars feting Richie.
R&B crooner Legend, a nine-time Grammy winner who is nominated four more times tonight, took on “Easy Like Sunday Morning.” And country superstar Bryan performed “Penny Lover,” marking his first time getting to sing at the Grammys, too. Tyrese then performed “Brick House.” At the end, the stars were joined by Richie himself for “All Night Long.”
The incredible tribute was to celebrate Richie as MusiCares’ 2016 Person of the Year. The music icon, who has won four Grammys over his decades-long career, was chosen for the honor in recognition of not just his success in the industry, but his commitment to philanthropic endeavors. Prior to the Grammys, Richie was feted at a star-studded gala on Saturday, where Legend, Bryan and Lovato were among the performers.
Previous MusiCares recipients include Bob Dylan (2015), Carole King (2014), and Bruce Springsteen (2013). Gossip Cop will have full video of the Grammys tribute to Richie soon.
