Did Demi Lovato Really “Diss” Taylor Swift or Selena Gomez on Radio? (LISTEN)

Demi Lovato has a massive, devoted following that’s helped propel her past personal problems to new heights in music and television.

On Wednesday, when a radio host at KDWB in Minnesota asked the performer why her fans are so “hardcore,” Lovato had an interesting response:

“A lot of celebrities don’t open up to their fans. They just tell them what they want to hear. They don’t really tell them things that can benefit their lives. They just, you know, maybe flaunt around a boyfriend and sell a couple albums. That’s not what my career is about.”

Some outlets — including the radio station itself — are interpreting Lovato’s comments as a direct diss of her contemporaries, like Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift.

But it’s important to note that Lovato did not actually “take a shot” at anyone by name in the clip.

Of course, the media loves a conflict, which is why the “diss” angle will be exaggerated.

She has a point though. The amount of quick time I’ve spent on twitter I’ve quickly realized the celebs people like the most have twitters and don’t even use them. Unless they want to defend themselves. Their fans tweet them and beg them all day to talk to them and they don’t. The celebs who get alot of “hate/criticism” from the public and media I notice they actually talk to their fans the most for some reason. If I was famous as had my own fanbase I would talk to them all the time. That’s automatic friends right there. There was nothing wrong in what he said in my opinion. Other celebs don’t mind speaking the truth why can she? If they think it’s about Selena or Taylor then that’s probably cause it’s part true. If a dog gets it it’s gonna hollar.

What she says is very true. For example I’m a Christina Aguilera fan and she most likely has a Twitter only because it was mandatory if you were on The Voice. Out of two years with an account, she’s posted maybe two personal tweets or any tweets to really connect with her fans. It’s always business and little promotion and that does’t benefit anyone. I’m not sure if that’s what Demi meant, like connecting with fans, but that’s how I think of it and it’s true. She obviously wasn’t taking a direct diss at anybody.

Exactly. And celebs I don’t even like connect with their fans and I’m like WTF is this? Haha. I don’t get why they wouldn’t use twitter. Although the ones that do connect with their fans get critiqued for every word they type. So maybe that’s why I I have no clue. But she does have a point. You have a voice and way to get a message out take advantage of it.
