Demi Lovato Defends Lindsay Lohan, Calls Out Perez Hilton For Sensationalism

Demi Lovato is coming to Lindsay Lohan’s defense in the wake of the troubled star’s most recent arrest.

Lohan was taken into custody early Thursday after allegedly assaulting another woman at Avenue, a club in New York, leading to an avalanche of speculation about her legal future, mental state, and possible substance use.

Lovato, who’s been through her fair share of tabloid gossip and has never been shy about using Twitter to make a stand, took umbrage with what she perceived as the media unnecessarily piling on Lohan.

The “X Factor” judge tweeted at Perez Hilton after the blogger published a particularly sensational item about Lohan, writing, “@PerezHilton hey how about you just leave her alone? Instead of kicking someone while they’re down?”

Her tweet began a back-and-forth with Hilton in which Lovato argued that the press should ease up in its treatment.

“The media (not just you) don’t realize when you need to stop,” Lovato wrote to Hilton. “This isn’t a headline for your readers. This is someone’s life.”

She added, “I really wish we could go back in time when artists were known for their work. Not their personal lives.”

When Hilton contended that Lohan thrives on the drama, Lovato countered, “Regardless, why does it need to become everyone’s business? If you believe someone needs help – help them.”

Lohan, meanwhile, has been silent on Twitter since her arrest, aside from retweeting a fashion news story.

    Actually not true, he posted a ridick story about her drinking 2 liters of vodka a day, everyday, which literally no one would know besides Lindsay herself…however, even though I agree with the mean spirited shit Lovato is calling out, she’s just sending people and numbers to that douches site by specifically pointing him out, so in the end he wins

    TMZ first posted the vodka story. I honestly believe that Lohan surrounds herself with people that cannot be trusted and absolutely do not have her best interests at heart. Whoever gets the booze for her is probably the one leaking the info to the media.

    Provided she doesn’t go to jail for a while, she needs to get herself the hell out of the spotlight, cut everybody out if her life, and focus on getting sober. Otherwise, she’s a lost cause because she’s not helping herself.

    I’m disappointed with Gossip Cop … They only reported the sensationalist part of the conversation between Demi and Perez, but forgot to mention the fact that both were extremely civilized in their discussion and the conversation ended with jokes between them.

    have empathy for those that get picked on or bullied or are just down. Hope she
    never changes. Btw, Perez Hilton is just as despicable as is TMZ, both are very
    bad for humankind.

    Thank the lord for Demi Lavota if more celebrities took her lead a change might happen. He is the biggest bully out there and seems to have regressed back to his original days since the Kristen Stewart scandal…..A terrible bully. I remember years ago when Britney Spears had a breakdown and he just totally tore her up everyday a real ugly person.

    I like that Demi stood up for Lohan sure she’s done some bad stuff, but the media is taking the bullying of stars to far. Plus I hate perez so i’m glad she called him out respectfully.

    Not real sure some one her size could drink that much Vodka a day. Vodka is at least 80 proof and the more expensive ones are 100-160 or more. 100 proof would be 50% alcohol.So that would be like drinking over a liter of pure alcohol a day.

    i used to like perez, with reserves of course. he says he has change hes ways, but that’s not true, and that’s the reason i don’t go to his site anymore, i actually hate him a little bit. at that time when Britney was SO lost, he bullied her so much that it did hurt me. it hurt me how the media in general was making fun of what was happening to her. i use to cry every day. i was so unbelievable sad, but not just because of what was going on with her, but because of the circus the media made out of a terrible situation!…and Perez was one of the leading ones on that circus!
