Demi Lovato: Carrie Fisher Is “Awesome Example” For Women’s Body Images
Demi Lovato is praising Carrie Fisher for slamming her critics over comments about her physical appearance. The singer took to Twitter on Sunday to call the Star Wars actress a role model for all women.
On December 30, Fisher sent out a pair of fiery tweets, asking Internet body shamers to “please stop debating whether OR not [I] aged well. Unfortunately, it hurts all 3 of my feelings.” She added, “My BODY hasn’t aged as well as I have,” before telling her haters, “Blow us.” In a subsequent tweet, Fisher expressed, “Youth and beauty are not accomplishments. They’re the temporary happy byproducts of time and/or DNA.”
Lovato, who has spent years combating an eating disorder and is a vocal proponent of being beautiful at any size, finally weighed in four days later on Fisher’s tweets. The singer praised Fisher on Twitter for having “been through so much and yet she still doesn’t let the haters get to her.” Lovato also called Fisher an “awesome example for women of all ages everywhere,” before taking the opportunity to say, “Thank you @carriefffisher.. You are #goals.”
Lovato’s Twitter followers appeared to agree with her assessment of Fisher. A user named @Demilovato979 wrote, “Everyone has the right to feel Confident! No matter the age,” while @DamnnLovato tweeted, “Duh! Shes a badass galactic princess.”
