Debra Messing Slams “Bozos” At New York Daily News For Bogus Tony Awards Matching Dress Story
Debra Messing slammed the New York Daily News’ alleged gossip column on Friday for claiming she left last Sunday’s Tony Awards show early because she was upset that she and co-presenter Anna Chlumsky were wearing matching gowns.
Messing and Chlumsky handed out the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play while wearing nearly identical plum-colored dresses with criss-cross necklines. Though extremely similar, Messing’s Zac Posen gown was a tad bit shorter than Chlumsky’s Sophie Theallet dress.
On Friday, a good five days after the awards show, the Daily News alleged it had information that while the two women played nice onstage at the ceremony, Messing was secretly “annoyed by the slip-up” and she thought they “looked stupid.” The tabloid further claimed that Messing was seen leaving the Tony Awards early because she was so upset over the identical gown situation.
But it’s all not true. And Messing took to Twitter to fire back at the tabloid, writing, “I hope u didn’t pay your ‘informant’ bc u were punked. Anna and I laughed @ our dresses and I had a ball until the last bow #bozos.” A rep for Messing also denied the actress was angry, saying the two ladies thought it was funny they wore similar dresses.
