“Deadpool” Wins Box Office During Oscars Weekend
Deadpool won the box office during the film industry’s biggest weekend of the year. While stars gathered in Los Angeles for the Oscars, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool reigned over the box office for the third week in a row. This time, the Marvel movie took in $31.5 million, bringing its total haul close to $300 million in just three weekends.
Gods Of Egypt, starring Gerard Butler, opened in second place, but with a disappointing $14 million in ticket sales. The animated Kung Fu Panda secured third place with $9 million. Coming in fourth was the religious-themed Risen, which raked in $7 million, followed by fifth place finisher Eddie The Eagle.
Rounding out the Top 10 were Triple 9, a new film starring this weekend’s Academy Awards nominee Kate Winslet. It earned $6.1 million and sixth place. With ticket sales of $5.2 million, How To Be Single nabbed seventh place. The Witch came in eight with $5 million, while Race took ninth with $4.3 million. Just making it into the Top 10 at the box office on Oscars weekend was The Revenant, with ticket sales of $3.8 million. The Revenant, of course, is one of the favorites to win Best Picture on Sunday night at the Academy Awards.
