David Schwimmer Declined Meeting Kardashians To Discuss Playing Dad Robert On “American Crime Story”
David Schwimmer, who plays the late Robert Kardashian on the upcoming series “American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson,” reveals in a new interview that he declined the opportunity to discuss his role with the Kardashian sisters, because they wanted the meeting to happen on “Keeping Up With The Kardashians.”
“American Crime Story” centers around Simpson’s real-life trial for the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman. Cuba Gooding Jr. stars as Simpson, while Schwimmer portrays the late Kardashian patriarch, who served as one of his defense lawyers.
Schwimmer says in an interview with THR that he spoke on the phone for more than two hours with his character’s ex-wife, Kris Jenner, who relayed details to him about her late ex-husband. Jenner told Schwimmer that Kardashian was a “man of faith,” and a “very compassionate, generous guy,” among other things. Selma Blair, who portrays Jenner on the show, met with her real-life counterpart as well.
The former “Friends” stars also reveals, “The producers of [‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’] had asked me if I wanted to talk to the daughters, too, but I didn’t feel that was necessary.” The actor then laughs, “And they wanted to do it on camera.” But despite the real Kardashian kids having very little involvement with “American Crime Story,” they’ll be depicted by child actors on the show, which premieres February 2 on FX.
