David Beckham will receive the BBC Sports Personality Lifetime Achievement award.
The soccer star is England’s most internationally recognized athlete and ambassador for his sport. His 2007 move to the Los Angeles Galaxy set off a media frenzy on both sides of the Atlantic.
He’d previously played professionally for Manchester United and Real Madrid, while also starting for England’s national team in three World Cups.
Beckham, of course, is married to former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, with whom he has three sons.
The lifetime achievement award will be presented on Sunday.
