Dana White: Meryl Streep MMA Golden Globes Diss Is “Uneducated” (VIDEO)
Dana White is slamming Meryl Streep for dissing MMA at Sunday’s 2017 Golden Globes. Check out the video below.
As Gossip Cop reported, Streep used her Cecil B. DeMille Award acceptance speech to call out Donald Trump and champion the arts, as well as foreigners and the press. At one point, she pointed out that many of the nominees were born outside the U.S. “If you kick them all out, you’ll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts,” Streep declared.
Now White, who is president of the UFC, is ripping Streep for the slight. In an interview with TMZ, he acknowledges that not everyone is into MMA, but snipes “The last thing I expect is for an uppity, 80-year-old lady to be in our demographic.” For the record, Streep is 67.
White, who wasn’t “sure” if Streep’s dig was because he spoke at the Republican National Convention, repeated, “I don’t expect an 80-year-old woman to be a fan of mixed martial arts.” He then pointed out, “I’m not a big fan of golf. [It] doesn’t mean people should stop watching it. If you don’t like it, change the channel.”
“Of course it’s an art,” White went on to say of the sport, noting the training required for MMA fights. He further argued, “Saying something stupid like that is like saying that she’s not a talented actress, which she is. She’s a very talented actress.”
White also touted that the UFC embraces foreign-born participants. “She’s not educated about the sport, and it was a completely uneducated comment,” he insisted. Scott Bellator, an MMA promoter, has also invited Streep to an upcoming event so she can see the “art” involved. See the invite and videos below.
