WATCH: Damien Adele Cover On The Voice Gets Standing Ovation And Brings Tears
Damien broke away from the Top 8 on “The Voice” on Monday, earning a standing ovation from all four coaches for his cover of “Someone Like You” by Adele.
The contestant’s version was every bit as moving and emotional as the original verion, and yet incredibly unique as Damien expertly used his falsetto. The specialness of the performance, and the reaction from the coaches and audience alike, along with his family in the crowd, brought the singer to tears.
As Gossip Cop reported, Damien was one to watch from his very first performance on the show. During the Blind Auditions, it took only a few bars of “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday” for Adam Levine and new coaches Gwen Stefani and Pharrell to slam on their buzzers, and Blake Shelton followed suit. Damien broke down in sobs and was comforted by Stefani.
This time around, Damien’s performance prompted Blake Shelton to declare, “I gotta say, this is the best season I have ever done. This is the best group of singers I have ever seen in my life. It’s unbelievable.” He went on to tell Damien, “I would swear you were a machine if you didn’t have so much passion and soul to go along with how perfect that performance was.”
Pharrell told the performer, “Damien, you do it every week, man. It’s just so crazy to me how effortlessly you paint the walls with those notes… I’m super, super happy for you.” And Stefani called the rendition both “so beautiful” and “perfect.”
Damien’s coach Levine was so blown away, he admitted, “Man, I don’t even know what to say to you anymore. It’s boring the things that I have to say.” Levine went on to note that “Someone Like You” was Damien’s own choice, that he had “wanted to do this song for years.” And it ended up paying off in a huge way. “Tonight was his best, best, best performance,” said Levine.
