Damien Chazelle “La La Land” Interview On “GMA” – WATCH VIDEO!
La La Land has been the frontrunner throughout awards season, snagging top prizes at the Critics’ Choice Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and BAFTAs. The romantic musical tells the story of an aspiring actress (Stone) and a jazz pianist (Gosling) who cross paths in Los Angeles. Chazelle, who also directed Whiplash, is one of the favorites to win Best Director at the Oscars later this month.
“I find it crazy, I find it surreal,” the filmmaker said of the film’s record 14 Academy Award nominations. “I am really thrilled that a lot of people who made the movie with me are getting acknowledged. That’s actually a great thing.”
Of Gosling and Stone’s chemistry, Chazelle said, “It’s the best special effect you could ask for, just having the two of them in a frame together. I was really — I was lucky.” The morning show’s co-hosts were also in awe of the director’s own talent.
“You’re only 32,” marveled Robin Roberts. And Michael Strahan quipped, “It makes you go, ‘What have I done with my life?'” During the live interview, Chazelle also explained why the film’s beloved opening number almost didn’t make the final cut. Check out the video below!
