Dalton Rapattoni gave three strong performances on Thursday’s “American Idol” in hopes of making it into next week’s big finale. Watch below!

For the first round, Rapattoni got to make a “Hometown Dedication.” The punk rocker chose “Calling You” by Blue October. Jennifer Lopez commented afterward, “It’s funny. Watching your hometown, it felt like it all sank in…. I just felt a difference in the way you performed.”

Harry Connick, Jr. told Rapattoni, “You do really well with great lyrics… I really liked the arrangement that you picked.” And Keith Urban added, “You’re so in your zone and in your lane. You did your best Dalton-ization of that song. It was really, really great.”

In the second round, Rapattoni and his competitors had to sing songs picked by “Idol” mentor Scott Borchetta. He was tasked with Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark.” Lopez called his performance “awesome.” Meanwhile, Connick, Jr. said he loves how Rapattoni gets the audience into his performances. “You did you good tonight. It was great,” added Urban.

It was up to the judges to select the tracks for the third and final round, and Rapattoni was given Tear For Fears’ “Everybody Wants To Rule The World.” Lopez felt he sang the song too low, as did Urban. Connick also told him it was “not your strongest performance.”
