Dakota Johnson “Today Show” Video: Watch “Fifty Shades Darker” Interview
Dakota Johnson appeared on Wednesday’s “Today Show” to discuss the highly-anticipated Fifty Shades Darker, her relationship with Jamie Dornan, and how her character Anastasia Steele has evolved since the first movie. Check out the video below!
When asked by “Today” co-anchor Hoda Kotb how her character evolves in the second film, Johnson said, “Anastasia and Christian decide to give [their relationship] another shot. You see the two of them grow into their really intense feelings for each other, instead of just setting up the story like we were doing in the first [movie]. You really get to understand who these people are.”
Kotb went on to ask Johnson how she feels as an actress on the set of Fifty Shades Darker, and what her professional relationship is like with costar Dornan. “It’s never really easy, but it was definitely not completely uncharted waters. Jamie and I have obviously known each other for a long time now. We have a level of comfort with each other, and trust,” Johnson noted. “As uncomfortable as it is to do scenes like that anyway, we probably figured out the best possible way to do it.”
Johnson also discussed how her role in the franchise has changed her life. “I definitely don’t see everything as sexual,” the actress joked. “It’s changed my whole life completely, but I think the biggest part is I travel around the world and I get to be surrounded by such talented, incredible filmmakers. That’s the biggest thing for me.” Check out the full interview below, in which Johnson also discusses a particular scene in the film that is dedicated to her mom.
