Daisy Ridley Cries During ‘Star Wars: Force Awakens’ Audition – WATCH VIDEO!
Daisy Ridley’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens audition tape has just been released online. It shows the actress crying on cue while acting out an emotional scene from the film, and it’s easy to see why she nabbed the lead role. Watch the never-before-seen footage below!
In the sci-fi sequel, Ridley stars as Rey, a scavenger who discovers she possesses the force. In a clip from the bonus features of the film’s upcoming Blu-ray release, Ridley is seen reading for the role prior to getting cast.
“What we were looking for was someone new, and this character needed to be vulnerable and tough, sweet, and terrified,” director J.J. Abrams says in a voiceover. “And to find someone that no one knew who could do all these things took a lot of looking.”
Abrams continues, “We were very lucky to find some great people, but the truth is, it wasn’t until we found Daisy that we just felt like she was capable of doing all these things the character required.” The sequence that won Ridley the role is the one in which villain Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) attempts to read her mind. “I asked her to do this one scene, sort of this torture scene, very intense, and she just blew my mind,” Abrams explains. “She’s reaching this depth of struggle and tears are running down her face. I thought, ‘This is unbelievable.’”
Ridley’s audition shows the actress crying as a hand grasps her forehead, and she intensely demands, “Get out of my head!” Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens will be released on Blu-Ray and DVD on April 5. In the meantime, watch Ridley’s audition tape, which is included in the bonus features.
