WATCH: Teen Bride Courtney Stodden and Actor Doug Hutchison Discuss Their Controversial Relationship

Mismatched lovebirds Doug Hutchison and Courtney Stodden appeared on “Good Morning America” today to discuss their controversial marriage (he’s 51, and she’s 16).

The couple describe how their first (professional) contact blossomed into an online courtship.

When they first met online, Hutchison thought the, um, mature-looking Stodden was in her twenties. Upon finding out she was 16, he says, “It didn’t make me want to walk away, but it definitely was a struggle inside my heart… because I had already started falling for her.”

Hutchison eventually flew up to meet Stodden and her family, and wound up proposing.

Stodden’s mother was the one who first pointed out that it was possible for them to marry despite her daughter’s age.

And that’s what they did.

Hutchison says the criticism he’s seen online has been tough, but “if [people] need to feel this way… it’s OK. I’ve been called worse than a pedophile in my life.”

    I was 16 three years ago. I cannot recall myself acting anything like that. She is such a bimbo and I don’t think she can engage any interesting conversation with anyone, let alone keep up with a 4-month “innocent” online courtship. The guy gets a boner every time he sees her. She just wants him cause he’s rich and an actor. I just pity her for having parents like that.

    She looks like she’s on drugs, like she has the attention span of a 1 yr old.
    Her parents should be ashamed of themselves, her mom was really monitoring her relationship with a grown ass man who’s older than her husband. They did pimp her out, no normal parent would have let this happen. WTF was she bullied for? I could think of reasons why she probably was talked about and it has nothing to do with her looks. This is just a publicity stunt & if they get that reality show then we all know that’s why they’re together. A family with deep Christian values wouldn’t have let their child pose & dress like that in photos, Christian values *eyes roll*

    This is a totally elaborate BS publicity stunt. Fake birth certificate, fake “parents”, fake everything! Too bad this scheme won’t backfire. All four involved will probably be laughing all the way to the bank.

    When I saw the first picture of them (after the wedding I presume, with his head on her chest and her head thrown back), I honestly thought that he was the 16 year old and she was the 51 year old! This just reeks of fake, and unless they are in this together, the man is obviously very stupid.

    She really is 16 years old….she “lived” in Ocean Shores, which is where I unfortunately live. Also, it should be noted that she represented herself as “Ms. Ocean Shores,” this was a title she gave herself. She did not win a title with our little city.

    She’s definitely on some sort of drugs. Way messed up. And up close her face is JACKED UP, maybe worse than his if that’s possible! And her boobs definitely look fake. I noticed too she has what looks like an already faded tattoo on her arm like Pam Anderson, like a wreath or barbed wire like Anderson has. But this chick’s is NOT new or recent because the colors are not bright.
