Courteney Cox is not blaming Jennifer Aniston for her called off engagement to Johnny McDaid, despite a new tabloid report. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct this claim. We’re told it’s “absolutely ridiculous.”

According to the National Enquirer, Cox is partially blaming Aniston for causing her and McDaid to split up. A so-called “source” tells the tabloid, “Courteney and Johnny’s relationship began its death spiral right after Jen’s wedding in August.” The magazine alleges Aniston insisted that Cox pressure McDaid to get married as well.

“Johnny resented Jen’s meddling… [He] even told Jen to back off,” a supposed “insider” tells the tabloid. The magazine’s seemingly phony source adds, “Johnny warned Courteney more than once that Jen was stirring up problems, so now Courteney is kicking herself for letting Jen come between them.” The tabloid’s supposed source further claims Cox would now “dump Jen if Johnny agreed to take her back.”

This is all very dramatic, but entirely untrue. A source close to Cox exclusively assures Gossip Cop the tabloid’s allegations about Aniston playing a part in her friend’s broken engagement are “absolutely ridiculous.” Cox and McDaid’s split had nothing to do with commitment issues nor Aniston supposedly “meddling.”

Rather, one of the major reasons for the breakup, Gossip Cop has learned, was a disagreement over living arrangements. McDaid wanted the two of them to move to the U.K., while Cox insisted they stay in Los Angeles. Gossip Cop is further told that the split was amicable, and the two are still on friendly terms. Cox, however, is on even friendlier terms with Aniston, and the tabloid’s claims otherwise are simply untrue.
