Conan O’Brien Breaks Sad News of Robin Williams Death To His Audience (VIDEO)
The host was visibly upset but remained composed as he explained that his show is taped a couple of hours before it airs on television, and felt Williams’ passing needed to be addressed.
“This is absolutely shocking and horrifying, and so upsetting on every level,” he said. “We’re at the end of the show, and it just felt like we just needed to just acknowledge. Obviously, we don’t know much yet. We know this has happened, and we are absolutely stunned.”
It was later revealed that Williams was found unresponsive and unconscious inside his home in Tiburon, California on Monday. The coroner suspects that Williams committed suicide by asphyxiation.
The show’s co-host Andy Richter and guest Will Arnett both had the pleasure of working with Williams and spoke about him.
“He was an amazingly kind and generous person,” said Richter.
“As funny as he was — he’s truly one of the all-time greats — he was even better as a person,” added Arnett. “He was even more fantastic… one of the kindest guys that I’ve ever worked with… it’s a major, major loss for everybody.”
O’Brien ended the show by saying, “We are thinking of Robin’s family. We’re thinking about everyone how he touched around the world throughout his life, and we’re thinking about Robin tonight.”
He noted, “We’re so very sorry to have to report this to anybody who’s hearing it for the first time. We are going to end our show now. I’d like to thank all my guests. Good night, and God bless Robin Williams.”
