Conan Unleashes on Jay Leno

Truth rating: 10

Three months after his last turn as host of “The Tonight Show,” Conan O’Brien says he wouldn’t have forced out another host, as he claims Jay Leno did.

O’Brien gives his first on-the-record comments about the late-night shake-up in a “60 Minutes” interview scheduled to air Sunday.

“He went and took that show back and I think in a similar situation, if roles had been reversed, I know — I know me, I wouldn’t have done that,” O’Brien says in an excerpt released by CBS.

When asked what he would have done instead, O’Brien says, “Done something else, go someplace else. I mean, that’s just me.”

On why he left NBC instead of moving his show to midnight as the network suggested, O’Brien explains that he thought the relationship was “going be toxic and maybe we just need to go our separate ways. That’s really how it felt to me… and I started to feel that I’m not sure these people even really want me here… .I can’t do it [anymore].”

So will you be tuning in on Sunday to watch O’Brien blast Leno?

Thats like the pot calling the kettle black. Sorry. The only reason Leno was forced to retire from the Tonight Show was because Conan wouldn’t resign for the Late Show unless he was guaranteed the Tonight Show in a short period of time forcing NBC to make Leno retire early. What did Conan think he was doing to Leno? He was forcing him out. Everyone can keep kissing Conan’s ass but I think he’s a douche with all his lies and cry baby act. Then the Late Show started dropping in ratings when Leno’s Tonight Show stayed #1 making NBC panick about losing Leno so they gave him 10pm and the rest is history. Dosen’t exclude Conan from the fact that HE started the whole thing.

I totally agree with spinilli! The day Leno announced that he would be retiring in 5 yrs. and that Conan would be taking over, I emailed NBC and told them I felt that was the biggest mistake they had ever made! IMO, Conan has nowhere near the talent of Jay or previous hosts of The Tonight Show. And where were Conan’s fans while he was hosting the Tonight Show? They certainly weren’t watching it! He started the entire fiasco and when he failed he tried to put all the blame on Leno. NBC made a fatal mistake thinking Conan would ever succeed. They should just have let him walk the first time he threatened to leave. They would have been better off without him, and saved a lot of money.

Jay leno is a liar. he went on National TV and told his national audience 6 years ago, that he would RETIRE in 5 years. That he wanted to go out on a great note. that Conan would be stepping in, and that the network was lucky to have him. He made the audience, and the network and his colleagues think that that was what HE wanted.

I have no doubt, had Jay gone to Conan, and said look man, my show is doing great, and I’m not ready – I don’t want to go. i amde a mistake 5 years ago – Conan would have not proceded with getting the Tonight show spot.
    .
But Leno did not. He let NBC move him out temporarily, and install Obrien, KNOWING they would be pulling the plug on Conan without giving him a fair shot and putting Jay back in his place. Conan was in the dark. he was duped.
    .
All NBC had to do was tell Conan, look we hate to renege but we don’t want Jay out yet, and Jay doesn’t want to be out yet – we’ll extend your contract here in the later time slot on your show, or you can leave.
    .
But no, they wanted their cake and to eat it too – they THOUGHT, they’d get to keep Jay, and Conan eventually for another several years long contract.
    .
Both NBC and Jay screwed Conan over.
