Sponsor Pepsi confirmed on Thursday that Coldplay will be the main performer for the halftime show at Santa Clara, California’s Levi Stadium on February 7. It’s been reported Bruno Mars may join the performance, as well as other artists. Mars, of course, was the halftime show act in 2013.
A number of big-name stars have been rumored to be involved in the upcoming event, including Maroon 5. As Gossip Cop reported, however, Adam Levine shot down the speculation during a “Howard Stern Show” interview in October. Levine acknowledged his band would be interested in the gig, but denied any “real conversation” was taking place.
The news that Coldplay will instead take the stage come just one day before the release of the band’s seventh studio album. Front man Chris Martin has actually suggested that A Head Full Of Dreams, which will drop on Friday, could be the group’s last. Performing at the Super Bowl will be an amazing way to commemorate both the record and the band’s career, before a world tour stars in March.
Martin and his band are following in the footsteps of Katy Perry, who was preceded over the last few years by Mars, Beyoncé, and Madonna. TELL US: Would you like to see Coldplay perform at the 2016 Super Bowl?
