CNN’s bad game of “telephone” wrongly bans Lady Gaga video

Truth rating: 0

No one is sure of how Fredricka Whitfield came up with it, but when discussing Lady Gaga’s new video, “Telephone,” which also stars Beyonce, the CNN anchor had some sort of disconnect yesterday, claiming the video was banned by MTV.

In the segment with CNN’s Jacqui Jeras, Whitfield said the video was “so strong, so suggestive, so sexual, so violent as well, that MTV has said, ‘We’re not even going to air this, so it has banned the airing of this video.’”

Huh?

MTV never said that. In fact, the music channel had already aired the video two days before.

Of course, that didn’t stop other media outlets from just focusing on Whitfield’s words and reporting everywhere that the network nixed the video.

Just to make clear, the video – despite numerous reports – is NOT banned on MTV.

A spokesperson for the network reiterated, “MTV did not ban Lady Gaga and Beyoncé’s ‘Telephone’ video,” adding, “Fans can continue to catch the video as we repeat it on-air and online.”

Sounds like Whitfield must had heard the wrong rumor in a bad game of telephone.
