Clint Eastwood appears on Tuesday’s “Ellen DeGeneres Show,” and the movie legend talks about his recent controversial address at the Republican National Convention, as well as his family’s reality show.

Regarding his infamous “empty chair” speech, Eastwood jokes, “The Democrats who were watching thought I was going senile — and the Republicans knew I was.”

The actor-director says he was, “Just trying to enjoy myself.”

Eastwood also touches upon his libertarian beliefs and how they affect his stance on gay marriage.

As for his family’s show, Eastwood says, “My only request was to please leave me out of it as much as possible.”

He seems similarly lukewarm about his daughter Francesca’s artist boyfriend Tyler Shields.

“Yeah… he’s the kind of guy everybody wants to see their daughter bring home,” jokes Eastwood.

I watched Clint’s RNC speech and thought it was hilarious. I also agree with his view that both sides of the political aisle our out of control with the spending and getting into people’s business. Hopefully we have many years left with this man.

I find it odd that he would speak at the RNC based on his political views. It doesn’t sound like he is a big republican. He may lean more that way but it doesn’t seem like he is really behind the policies of the party enough to speak for them in such a big way. Obviously this is just one interview but still sort of interesting.

I guess Clint had taken his meds before going on Ellen. I wish she had pushed him on the libertarian ideas. Ron Paul is a libertarian and the idea seems to be “You’re on your own. Don’t bug me.” It’s a pretty brutal way of thinking.
