Elijah Wood Mourns Lord Of The Rings Co-Star Christopher Lee — See Tributes
Elijah Wood and more celebrities are mourning Sir Christopher Lee after it was revealed the legendary actor died on Sunday. Best known for villainous roles in films like the Lord of the Rings, Dracula, and Star Wars, Lee reportedly died from respiratory ailments and heart failure. He was 93.
After Lee’s passing became public on Thursday morning, Wood, who co-starred with him in the Rings franchise, tweeted, “An extraordinary man and life lead, Sir Christopher Lee. You were an icon, and a towering human being with stories for days. We’ll miss you.”
Fellow Rings star Dominic Monaghan also paid tribute to Lee on Twitter. “So so sorry to hear that #christopherlee has passed away. He was a fascinating person,” wrote the “Lost” actor, amusingly adding, “Threw a bic pen into a tree in front of me. #legend.”
Roger Moore, who starred opposite Lee in the James Bond movie The Man With the Golden Gun, posted, “It’s terribly when you lose an old friend, and Christopher Lee was one of my oldest. We first met in 1948.” Referencing Lee’s family, Moore went on to say, “Our thoughts are for Lady Lee, Christina and Juan.”
And Chloe Grace Moretz wrote on Twitter, “I had the immense pleasure of working with Sir Christopher Lee twice in my career which I think is a huge testament to what a brilliant actor he was, that someone from the age of 12 had the pleasure of personally acting opposite him in film.” The pair starred together in Hugo and Dark Shadows.
“I’ll never forget everything that he taught me and the wonderful conversations we had and how he always helped me keep my head up my entire heart and prayers go out to him and his beautiful amazing wife who was just as much a breathe of fresh air as he was,” continued Moretz. She added, “Rest in peace, it will always be an honor to say I got to know such a beautiful soul, Forever Changed. #SirChristopherLee.”
U.K. Prime Minster, David Cameron, posted a message, too, also recognizing the passing of Ron Moody, who was best known for his Oscar-nominated role in Oliver!. “I’m saddened by the deaths of Sir Christopher Lee and Ron Moody,” said Cameron. “Both starred in films that are treasured by millions.”
Others remembering Lee range from Josh Gad and “NCIS” star Michael Weatherly to Bryan Adams, who shared the above photo he took of the movie icon in 2010. “What a sad day for the world to lose this incredible actor and human being,” the singer wrote on Instagram.
