(Fox30)

Christopher Chaney, the man who hacked the email accounts of Hollywood stars including Scarlett Johansson and Christina Aguilera, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Monday.

As Gossip Cop previously reported, Chaney pleaded guilty in March to nine felony counts, including wiretapping and unauthorized access to a computer.

He was arrested back in October 2011 as part of the FBI “Operation Hackerazzi” investigation.

Chaney was said to be responsible for hacking into the accounts of more than 50 celebrities, including Johansson, Aguilera and Mila Kunis.

Nude photos taken by Johansson and intended for her then-husband Ryan Reynolds wound up online amid Chaney’s hacking.

He had faced up to 60 years in prison.

    WTH? 10 years?! For this?

I don’t think ten years is necessary. If it was child or someone under 18 its more understandable. I know people who do worse crimes who get punished for less years.

Not even rapist and child molesters get this much time. Absurd justice system

They are making scapegoats out of hackers to discourage them, to frighten them, as they are afraid of them. We do not have uniform judgments, punishments, sentences for criminal acts in the US. They vary from state to state. It is a great problem that needs revision.

If he had hacked into a regular, average person he probably would have gotten a year on probation, but since it was celebs, you know the rich and famous, the judge gave him 10 years. Ridiculous. You can plead guilty to manslaughter or 2nd degree murder and not get this much time, but mess with actresses, they throw you in prison for .10 years. Go figure.

Yet Lindsey Lohan still walks free everytime. Celebrities should not own the law! Punishment should fit the crime. Next they will be giving life sentences to people who steal bread.

  • justsayn

damn there are people that killed a person that gets less time than this perv!

What if he had used his hacking talent to find and post troop locations. Would you still be all offended that he got 10 years? He did the crimes, he can do the time. I have no sympathy for arrested hackers. Let him rot.

I don’t condone what he did, but I think ten years is a bit steep, given that celebrities themselves can repeatedly offend and break the law and they seem to be immune from prosecution.
