Christina Grimmie Death Statements From NBC, Radio Disney And More
NBC, Radio Disney, and more are releasing statements about the death of Christina Grimmie, who was fatally shot at an Orlando concert on Friday.
As Gossip Cop has reported, Grimmie was best known for finishing in third place on “The Voice” during 2014’s season 6. She remained closely connected to the show in the two years since, making return appearances for performances and serving as a correspondent. After her death, the series’ official Twitter account posted condolences, and Adam Levine issued a formal statement this afternoon.
Now NBC has released two statements from its executives. Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, says, “Christina’s talent, energy, and spirit set her apart as a true star, and this tragedy leaves a gaping hole in our NBC family.” Paul Telegdy, president of the NBC Entertainment Alternative and Reality Group, also says, “Christina’s music inspired millions of people across America and we are heartbroken to think of the millions more who will never get to see this beautiful person and performer.”
He adds, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family, friends and all those who are currently feeling the depths of this horrible loss.” Mark Burnett, whose company produces “The Voice,” also tweeted, “Roma, myself and the entire @NBCTheVoice family are deeply saddened by this tragedy. We are praying for @theRealGrimme family and friends.”
Additionally, Radio Disney says in its own statement, “We were fortunate to know and work with Christina Grimmie, a wonderful young woman who reveled in sharing her talent and passion for music with the world. At this sorrowful time, we extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, colleagues and fans.”
And PETA’s Senior Director of Youth Outreach and Campaigns, Marta Holmberg, says on behalf of the organization, “The world has lost a beautiful and compassionate soul today. Not only was Christina Grimmie a talented singer, she was also a true hero for animals. The proud guardian of an adorable rescued pup, she partnered with peta2 to encourage people always to adopt animals from shelters instead of buying them from breeders or pet stores. PETA will honor Christina with a leaf on our Tree of Life in recognition of her work to help all living beings. Although her life was tragically cut short, she leaves behind a legacy of hope and inspiration that will help change the world for the better.”
The shooting took place at the Plaza Live. In a statement posted to Facebook on Saturday afternoon, the venue says:
“Like everyone else in the community, the board and staff at the Plaza Live Venue are deeply saddened by the tragic events of Friday evening. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those lost as well as those who witnessed and aided in the recovery after this senseless act.
We are closely working with The Orlando Police Department on this active law enforcement investigation and therefore necessarily defer specific questions to OPD’s Public Information Officer.
All activities and events at the Plaza Live Venue have been suspended until further notice. Grief counselors will be provided to the involved staff and we will be partnering with our concert promoter to support the artists and their families as appropriate. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and support during this traumatic time.”
As Gossip Cop reported earlier, celebrities have also been tweeting reactions and tributes to the stunning tragedy. Chris Christie, the governor of Grimmie’s home state of New Jersey, also posted, “Very sad to hear of the tragic passing of NJ native Christina Grimmie. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends and fans.” We will continue to have updates.
