Chrissy Teigen Attacked On Twitter For Planned Parenthood Support
Chrissy Teigen is getting attacked on Twitter for showing support for Planned Parenthood in the wake of Friday’s shooting.
As Gossip Cop reported, a gunman named Robert Lewis Dear opened fire at a Colorado Springs clinic and had an hours-long standoff with police. Three people, including an officer, died in the incident, and several more were injured. Among celebrity reaction, Gossip Cop noted Teigen was one of the first stars to comment.
“Every time [expletive] like this happens, john and I immediately make another donation to planned parenthood,” tweeted the model, who is currently expecting her first child with husband John Legend. After tweeting a link to donate, however, Teigen faced immediate backlash. She then announced, “Extremely fine with any unfollows. Would prefer it over your ignorant rants but I’m prepared either way. Nothing I haven’t seen before.”
Indeed, Teigen was inundated with hateful tweets for the next several hours and into Saturday. One person said she should “focus more on @PPFA killing kids,” while another called her out for seemingly only showing concern for Planned Parenthood and not those “who lost their lives.” In response, Teigen pointed out “it’s possible to support two things at once,” and told the Twitter user, “I don’t need you to check where my feelings and mind are. I’m an adult. I’m good. Thank you.”
And even though Teigen also shared a link to donate to the police foundation of Colorado Springs, another slammed her for not sharing the fundraising page for the cop who was killed. “It would be wonderful if you could promote this as quickly as you promoted donating to PP,” wrote the follower. The angry star fired back, “oh [expletive] off. Nothing is ever enough for you, is it? How about you donate?”
The string of tweets ended with Teigen pointing out that one person who tried to insult her wasn’t even making sense. “@chrissyteigen all your brains must be elsewhere in your body! #PlannedParenthood #idiots #MoronAlert #nobrains,” wrote the Twitter user. Given the contradiction, Teigen asked in response, “so is it no brains or are they elsewhere in my body, carlos?”
Teigen, however, wasn’t the only star to face backlash for her comments on the tragedy. As Gossip Cop reported, Kathy Griffin also exchanged a number of intense tweets with followers. And Sarah Silverman received hateful messages, too, including one that was anti-Semitic. The comedienne simply replied, “I wish you felt loved Sweetie.”
