Chris Pine Convicted of Drunk Driving, Swarmed By Fans at Court (PHOTOS)
Chris Pine has pleaded guilty to and was convicted of drunk driving in New Zealand, before getting sentenced to a fine and his license suspended.
As Gossip Cop previously reported, the actor was arrested earlier this month in the town of Methven, after a wrap party for his film Z for Zachariah.
At the Ashburton District Court on Monday N.Z. time, a police prosecutor said Pine confessed to having four vodka drinks before getting behind the wheel.
His blood alcohol content level was 0.11 percent when he was stopped at DUI checkpoint, above the .08 limit.
According to The New Zealand Herald, Pine’s attorney sought a “discharge without conviction,” arguing that “a conviction would outweigh the gravity of the offense,” and noting that the movie star would have visa trouble in the future, particularly in countries such as Canada.
The lawyer also said Pine took responsibility for his actions, and suffered emotionally and professionally from the incident, with negative publicity threatening his career.
The judge, accepting that Pine was “entirely remorseful,” acknowledged his lack of a prior record and that he made a donation to Cure Kids, a New Zealand-based charity for children with life-threatening illnesses — but opted to convict him anyway.
“This issue of a visa will be a complication, but you’re no different to other people who may wish to travel to Canada,” she told Pine, saying he should be treated like everyone else.
The Star Trek star was fined NZ$400 ($340), ordered to pay court fees, and barred from driving in the country for six months.
Pine was surrounded by fans and media as he made his way to and from court (see photos above and below), and reportedly stopped to sign autographs for fans.
