NFL Player Chris Johnson Shot, Dreekins Oricko Johnson Killed In Drive-By Shooting
NFL player Chris Johnson was seriously injured in a drive-by shooting on Sunday that landed him and a fellow passenger in the hospital, and killed the driver of his car.
The running back, who was a Tennessee Titan before joining the New York Jets last year, was a passenger in a Jeep with two others following a concert in his hometown of Orlando when the violent incident took place around 4 a.m. Eastern Time. Johnson told police they were stopped at a red light when another car pulled up next to them and began firing.
Tragically, the driver of Johnson’s car, Dreekins Oricko Johnson, was fatally struck and found dead in the vehicle when the cops arrived. Johnson and the other passenger, Reggie Johnson, both suffered gun shot wounds to their shoulder and are currently hospitalized in stable condition. Reggie was also shot in the hand and leg as well. It is not yet known if the three men are related.
Johnson, who will become a free agent on Tuesday, was arrested in January when police discovered two semiautomatic hand guns in his car during a routine traffic stop. He was hit was a second-degree misdemeanor charge of carrying open firearms, and was released on $250 bond. That case is ongoing, and the drive-by shooting is under investigation as a homicide. No arrests have been made yet.
Johnson posted an Instagram photo before the concert, writing, “AND THEN wit my bradda POLLIE ready for my bradda @juicedupkt last show before he go away.” He is pictured on the left below.
