WATCH: Chris Jamison’s Unbelievable High Note Steals The Voice Semifinals
Chris Jamison showed just how high his voice can go during a performance of “When I Was Your Man” on the season 7 semifinals of “The Voice” on Monday. After already using his falsetto on Maroon 5’s “Sugar” during the first round of the night, Jamison took things to an even more unbelievable pitch for the night’s final performance. Check out the videos below!
Jamison initially stuck to Bruno Mars’ melody and pacing, just slightly changing some of the phrasing of the mournful ballad’s lyrics. But when he belted the high note, it was unlike anything heard before. Pharrell told the Top 5 contestant afterward, “All I can say is anyone back in [Jamison’s hometown] Pittsburgh is still standing on their feet right now.”
Gwen Stefani, who gave Jamison a standing ovation, revealed, “That was my favorite performance of the show that you’ve done.” The No Doubt singer went on, “You can just tell you love singing. You love that you have that gift. I can see that tonight. It’s incredible.” Jamison’s coach Adam Levine admitted he normally hesitates to do Mars covers with contestants because the Grammy winner is just so remarkable, but his semifinalist contestant managed to successfully make the track his own. “Tonight was Chris Jamison’s version of that song, and everyone felt that,” said Levine.
As Gossip Cop reported last week, Jamison won the final Instant Save of the season to make the Top 5, narrowly missing a brutal triple elimination. Votes from tonight will determine which three of the remaining five artists continue on to next week’s finale, though they’ll be joined by a wild card act, who will be selected from the previously-eliminated contestants on Tuesday’s live results show.
