Chris Hemsworth Sexiest Man Alive

Chris Hemsworth is People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2014. The announcement was made on Tuesday’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” The late-night host both interviewed Hemsworth via Skype and revealed the cover of the annual milestone issue, which will hit newsstands Wednesday.

Before saying it was Hemsworth, Kimmel said that being entrusted with announcement he’s “never felt more powerful or less attractive.” He added that the criteria for being tapped the Sexiest Man Alive by People is a very strict,” noting that “first of all, you must be sexy and secondly, you must be alive.” With Hemsworth’s face covered and his voice altered, Kimmel then had his audience guess who it might be by asking different questions, including whether he was over 35, had been the Sexiest Man Alive before, was single, was American, and had been a superhero in a movie. An audience member then guessed it was Hemsworth and the magazine’s cover and the actor himself were revealed.

Hemsworth said in the interview with Kimmel that he was “most excited about the alive part… sexy is a bonus.” He noted that his brother Liam knew for a while and has been “a real team player about this one.” He also thanked his parents for his looks.

Hemsworth follows in the footsteps of a bevy of sexy men. Mel Gibson was the first to earn the title, back in 1985. Since then, Richard Gere, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Johnny Depp have been among the elite few to be honored twice each. Recent handsome hunks gracing the cover have included Adam Levine (2013), Channing Tatum (2012), Bradley Cooper (2011), and Ryan Reynolds (2010).
