Chris Brown Rants About Grammys: “Awards Used To Mean Something”
Chris Brown ranted Friday night about the Grammys and how the definition of success is changing in the entertainment industry.
“#GRAMMY? This is probably the main reason i love being free to create any kind of music I want. Too many people kiss ass And work less,” Brown tweeted. “If u turn on ya radio right now I promise within the hour you will hear CHRIS BROWN on damn near half the songs or I’ve cowritten.”
The singer then declared, “The awards used to mean something. Now it’s about likes, and memes.” He added, “I’m thankful to my fans, I am able to be the best artist I can without having to conform to the ways of my peers. I also need my commission. A lot of y’all favorites are my Children! #OHB.”
It’s unclear what sparked Brown’s tweets, but they come about two weeks before the 2016 Grammy Awards. He has one shared nomination for the 58th annual ceremony: Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “Only” with Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, and Drake.
Brown has previously been nominated 15 times and won once. The honor was for Best R&B album for F.A.M.E. in 2012. Gossip Cop will have full coverage of this year’s Grammys on February 15.
