Robert Pattinson co-stars in the upcoming drama The Childhood of a Leader, and the film’s first trailer has just been released online. Watch the preview below!

The movie, set in France during World War I, tells the story of an American boy who grows up to become a fascist dictator. The film chronicles how the boy’s childhood experiences, including witnessing the creation of the Treaty of Versailles, shapes him into a future ruthless leader. Pattinson plays a local politician named Charles Marker, who’s a friend of the boy’s father.

The ominous new preview, which is accompanied by a creepy musical score, sees the boy beginning to develop a troubling personality. Following an unknown incident, Pattinson’s character asks the child’s parents, “He’s only a little boy. He didn’t actually hurt anyone, did he?”

The film premiered last September at the Venice International Film Festival, where filmmaker Brady Corbet won Best Director and the Luigi De Laurentiis Award for a debut film. The movie also stars Liam Cunningham, Berenice Bejo, Stacy Martin and newcomer Tom Sweet in the main role.

The Childhood of a Leader will make its U.S. premiere at the BAMcinemaFest in New York City this June. An official release date has yet to be announced, but the film is expected to arrive sometime later this year. In the meantime, watch the first trailer below!
