Chelsea Clinton did NOT “reject” an offer to join “The View,” despite an erroneous story from one of the tabloids. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct the claim, with a rep for the ABC morning show saying the report is completely untrue.

According to the National Enquirer, “The View” producers have been “on their knees pleading” with Clinton “to become their savoir — but the former first daughter refuses to go anywhere near the toxic talk show.” A so-called “source” is quoted as saying, “Chelsea snubbed ABC’s offer to make her the next Barbara Walters. In the past two months, she’s been approached twice by producers begging her to join the troubled show!”

“Chelsea used the ‘busy new mom’ excuse to turn the offer down, but in reality she couldn’t think of anything worse than joining the show right now,” claims the supermarket tabloid’s “source.” But the Enquirer goes on to allege that “producers are not giving up trying to woo Bill and Hillary’s daughter!”

Sigh. It’s awfully convenient to claim producers are dying to get Clinton to join “The View,” and then explain her absence by saying she just doesn’t want to do it. Tabloids like the Enquirer are all about including outs and covers for the lies they create. And this is indeed a lie.

Gossip Cop checked in with a rep for “The View,” and we’re exclusively told there’s “no truth” the claim they’ve approached Clinton about joining the show, or that she “rejected” such an offer. Gossip Cop wishes the National Enquirer would “give up” its fake stories.
