Charlie Hunnam and Guy Ritchie have quite a man crush on David Beckham. During their appearance on Friday’s “Graham Norton Show,” the actor and director gushed over working with the retired soccer star in King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. Watch the video below.

Beckham makes a cameo appearance in the new medieval blockbuster, directed by Ritchie and starring Hunnam in the title role. The filmmaker explained on the British talk show that he became friendly with the former soccer player because their kids go to the same school, and they frequent the same pub and gym. “I love him. He’s a lovely chap. It just made sense,” Ritchie noted of casting the athlete.

However, Beckham traded in his good looks for hideous facial scars and rotting teeth for his role in the film. Hunnam jokingly took responsibility for the character’s unsightly appearance, telling Norton, “I walked on to set and said, ‘I think you should check the contracts. I have to be the most handsome man on set at any given time and old Becksie is not gonna work for me. So that’s what we did to him.”

Hunnam went on to call Beckham “a lovely, kind, humble fella,” who “showed up so determined to do a good job,” despite having little acting experience. “He’s not an actor and I don’t think he has any real aspiration to be an actor, and yet he hired an acting coach and he’s so prepared,” added Hunnam. “I thought, ‘Wow. Good for you David Beckham.'” Watch the video below.
