WATCH: Charli XCX Performs “Boom Clap” On SNL (VIDEO)
Charli XCX performed the song “Boom Clap” on this week’s “SNL” (video below). This is the first time the young British superstar has been the musical guest on the show.
“Boom Clap” was first recorded for the movie The Fault In Our Stars, starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort. But the song has an even more interesting history. Written by Charli XCX and a few others, it was originally offered to Hilary Duff for her new album, but she turned it down. Charli XCX then used it for The Fault In Our Stars soundtrack, and then put it on her new album “Sucker.”
Charli XCX has been super busy the past 24 hours. On Friday, she blew the roof off the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball on Friday at Madison Square Garden in New York, where she performed “Boom Clap” and her latest hit, “Break The Rules.” Charli XCX also joined Iggy Azalea on stage for “Fancy,” which the two women co-wrote together.
It’s been a real banner year for the 22-year-old singer and songwriter. Not only is she releasing her new album “Sucker,” she’ll also be the opening act for Katy Perry’s Prismatic World Tour when it hits Europe in February and March of 2015. Check out the video below of Charli XCX’ performance of “Boom Clap” on “SNL,” and tell us what you think.
