Bizarre Kentucky Derby Story Runs Away with Week’s “Stupidest” Award

It’s time for the Stupidest Story of the Week!

The winner?

In a stunner, it’s HollywoodLife!

Kate Gosselin and Ian Somerhalder will both be at the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, observes the site, which then asks the question on absolutely no one’s mind.

“Even though we’re pretty positive Ian is dating his ‘Vampire Diaries’ co-star Nina Dobrev – do you think Kate will make a run for Nina’s man?”

[staring blankly]

Um, what?

“It might actually happen this weekend because they’re both in Louisville, Ken., for the 2011 Kentucky Derby!”

What might actually happen?

“We know the mom-of-eight wants an ‘older man,’ but who could resist Ian?”

Apparently, HollywoodLife is confused.

The site thinks the Kentucky Derby is a candlelit dinner for two.

It’s not.

“We know it’s far-fetched,” admits the stupefying site, “but wouldn’t it be an interesting match? We wonder what Ian’s girlfriend Nina Dobrev would have to say about it!”

She’d probably be totally baffled by this entire story, as would any rational person.

If HollywoodLife just wanted to do a story about celebrities attending the Derby – as it clearly intended, later mentioning Miranda Lambert, Nick Lachey, Erin Andrews and Audrina Patridge – why does it feel the need to concoct a bizarre, utterly baseless hypothetical Somerhalder-Gosselin pairing?

Does the site think the Kentucky Derby is actually speed dating for random Hollywood personalities?

Maybe Patridge will start dating Andrews?! Lambert could wind up with the winning jockey! Lachey may fall in love with a horse!

In any case, we’re not sure who’ll win this Saturday’s big race… but for Stupidest Story of the Week, the smart money is on HollywoodLife!

    I’ll second that vote for HollywoodLife! And third and fourth it!! What in the name of God would Ian want with a tired-looking, whiny, older woman with 8 kids??? Ian is one of the handsomest men ever, has a hit TV show, and is dating a beautiful woman! Did this “rag” actually believe anyone would think this story was even possible?
    Anyway, Ian is hanging out with his Dad (his words) at the Kentucky Derby. His Dad is obviously older, but I don’t think he would be interested in Kate either. Give as a break!!

    OMG!! Does anyone really care anymore about this piece of trash? Who in their right mind wants a woman (note I did not say mother) with 8 bratty kids? Pity the poor bastard that hooks up with her! She is looking for asian men so she can have more china dolls! What a sicko!!!!
