The big news on Saturday was Mitt Romney’s selection of U.S. House Representative Paul Ryan as his running mate and vice presidential pick.

Shortly after the announcement was made, celebrities began to chime in on the new Republican ticket.

Here are some of the notable Twitter reactions — positive, negative and otherwise — to the Ryan news:

Andy Cohen: ”I really hope someone has the guts to ask Paul Ryan’s stance on the KStew/RPatz situation in California. #NeedClarification.”

    And when exactly was he vetted? Here are a few things to know about Ryan since you probably don’t know more than the Rush Limbaugh talking points.

    1. His family owns Wisconsin so he knows nothing about the middle class.

    2. His only work in the private sector consists of a “consulting” job with his family’s company.

    3. He is against abortion even in cases of rape and incest.

    4. He was totally for Ayn Rand before he was totally against her.

    5. Ryan is the author of Bush’s disaster to privatize social security.

    6. He signed up for all of George Bush’s crazy spending that added trillions to the deficit. Now that we have a Democrat in the White House he is totally against government spending.

    I could go on, but his awfulness is so exhausting.

    Ryan’s conflicted allegiances show how much traction Ayn Rand’s alternative humanism has gotten in American culture despite such unpromising beginnings. And this happened spontaneously, without any central planning, despite the long-standing, built-in advantages both the Catholic Church and political progressives enjoy in the U.S. People keep trying to dismiss Rand as a sociopath, a kook and an ignoramus (with some justification), yet she managed to bypass both the Magisterium’s indoctrination system and the left’s propaganda channels in education, academia and government by taking her view of a proper society straight to the market, and finding enthusiastic customers. She must have gotten a few things right to have pulled that off.
