Celebrities Share ‘Stand Up To Cancer’ Reasons – See Tweets
The 2016 “Stand Up To Cancer” benefit airs Friday night, but prior to the show, celebrities are sharing their personal reasons for supporting the cause. See the stars’ #Reasons2StandUp tweets below.
Hollywood A-listers will unite to raise money for cancer research by participating in the live, hour-long, commercial-free fundraising telecast, during which viewers are encouraged to call in and donate. Dozens of big stars are involved in the show, and some have already taken to Twitter to share their reasons for joining the movement.
Celine Dion, who lost both her husband and brother to cancer this year, tweeted, “I [stand up to cancer] for my husband, my father, my brother, too many of our friends.” Matthew McConaughey expressed, “Lost a lot of loved ones this year that’s my #reasons2standup.” And Josh Gad revealed, “A friend currently getting her 3rd surgery 4 brains tumor = my #reasons2standup.”
Rita Wilson wrote, [Tom Hanks] and I have #Reasons2StandUp. I am a breast cancer survivor as are many friends.” Shannen Doherty, who’s currently battling breast cancer and undergoing chemotherapy, expressed, “What’s my reason to [stand up to cancer]… Because I still have so much more to do.” Meanwhile, Kathy Bates hopes “to kick cancer’s ass,” and Heidi Klum is on a mission “to find a cure.” Rachael Ray also offered, “My friend Britt is a rock star & beat breast cancer!”
Marcia Gay Harden is supporting the cause “for my friend Laura Ziskin,” a film producer who passed away from breast cancer in 2011. Jordana Brewster is on board “because I believe in the power of collaboration,” and William Shatner added, “I stand up to cancer for our children.” Additionally, Maria Menounos shared, “I have lost too many loved ones to cancer. That’s my reason,” and Matt Bomer similarly expressed, “Lost too many we know and love.” “Stand Up To Cancer” airs Friday at 9 p.m., and Gossip Cop will have a live stream of the show available to watch online.
