Celebrities React: Donald Trump Says “Illegal Leaks” More Important Than Michael Flynn
Celebrities are reacting to Donald Trump claiming “illegal leaks” are more important than the misdeeds of his now-former national security adviser, Michael Flynn. See stars’ tweets below.
Late Monday, Flynn resigned after it became abundantly clear he engaged in inappropriate conversations with the Russian ambassador to the United States, and then misled Vice President Pence about what took place. Flynn’s resignation came amid mounting pressure as more information about the situation was reported by the press, including fears that he had been comprised by Russia and claims the administration was aware of the severity of the issue last month. But it seems the President is more concerned about the media’s reporting on the scandal than the scandal itself.
Trump tweeted on Tuesday morning, “The real story here is why are there so many illegal leaks coming out of Washington? Will these leaks be happening as I deal on N.Korea etc?” That response is not sitting well with a number of stars.
Mark Ruffalo told Trump, “.@Marvel takes more precaution protecting Avengers scripts then you and #Flynn do dealing with national security. #YouKnew.” Chrissy Teigen wrote back, “That is what happens when your staff hates you. Beyonce’s staff are more leakproof than yours.” And Michael Moore stated, “Let’s be VERY clear: Flynn DID NOT make that Russian call on his own. He was INSTRUCTED to do so. He was TOLD to reassure them. Arrest Trump.”
Seth Rogen sarcastically said, “The REAL story with Watergate is that Deep Throat was out of line leaking info to the press!” Josh Gad also argued, “The issue is not that Jaws continues to kill people along the coast of Amity. It’s who gave Sheriff Brody the authority to hunt him down.” Kate Walsh even tweeted, “#impeachtrump.”
Meanwhile, George Takei offered, “Asked on Fri if he knew about Flynn allegations, Trump said NO. But he’d been briefed a MONTH ago. We know he lies. Now we need to know why.” Andy Richter said, “In wake of Flynn quitting, House R’s saying no need to investigate further. Such good Germans.” Michael Keaton asked, “Eventually, will Flynn roll over Re what Trump knew?”
Billy Eichner reposted a number of messages from Senator Elizabeth Warren, including, “But American national security demands that we not allow Michael Flynn to become a scapegoat for this Admin’s disturbing ties to Russia.” He also encouraged his followers, “Trump & @GOP are lying to us in the hopes this goes away. It ain’t gonna happen. They work for us. Call # below & demand an investigation.”
John Cusack shared an article that said, “Flynn resignation shows leaks under Trump are working. Keep ‘em coming.” Zach Braff remarked, “This story is huge. One of you journalists is gonna win a Pulitzer. Go.” And Jason Biggs actually retweeted a 2012 tweet from Trump that said, “Just as I predicted, @BarackObama has not allowed an independent investigation into the national security leaks from his cabinet.”
