Celebrities React: Donald Trump Budget Eliminates Meals on Wheels Funding
President Donald Trump’s proposed 2018 budget would eliminate federal funding for Meals on Wheels programs, and many celebrities are now reacting on Twitter to the news. See Hollywood stars’ tweets below.
The outline for Trump’s budget plan suggests cutting funds for the Department of Housing and Urban Development by more than $6 billion, almost half of which would come from the Community Development Block Grant program. That program provides a variety of services for impoverished communities, including Meals on Wheels, which provides food to the elderly, disabled, poor, and others unable to leave their homes.
Many celebrities are now bashing Trump on Twitter for looking to defund the charitable organization. Cher tweeted, “Never Thought I’d Loathe [Trump] More, Till I [saw] his Budget. Cuts 4Poor, Air, Water, Kids, Ed., Arts. Guess Ppl Who Depend On Meals on wheels can just die.” Patton Oswalt said, “Meals on Wheels provides 2 essentials: healthy food and human contact. Help out if you can?” And Ike Barinholtz sarcastically noted, “FINALLY a President with the courage to cut Meals on Wheels. Thank you @realDonaldTrump for telling moochers like this the free ride is OVER.”
Meanwhile, Rosie O’Donnell called Trump a “heartless MF,” while Sophia Bush referred to the president’s proposed plan as “revolting,” in addition to “inhumane and Un-American.” And after a follower claimed the cost of one Trump’s Florida trips could fund Meals on Wheels for a year, Judd Apatow responded, “They don’t seem to care. Does anyone out there care?” Gossip Cop will update as more celebrities react to Trump’s proposed budget eliminating funds for Meals on Wheels.
As Gossip Cop reported earlier, many celebrities also reacted to Trump’s proposed budget cuts for the National Endowment of the Arts.
