Celebrities React To McKinney Officer Slamming Teen Girl On Ground At Pool Party
Celebrities are outraged over a video that surfaced over the weekend showing a McKinney, Texas officer named Eric Casebolt slamming a 15-year-old bikini-clad girl onto the ground and then handcuffing her. In the video (below), police officers are seen telling a bunch of teenagers to get down. At one point, Casebolt walks over to the young teen, grabs her by the neck, then slams her onto the grass, and uses his knee to hold her down. He’s also seen pulling out his gun and aiming it at two other teens. A few minutes later, another cop comes and handcuffs the unnamed teen, leaving her laying on the ground. The video has led to many people, including stars, to tweet their shock over how roughly the cop handled the girl.
At issue was that a number of teens used a pool they didn’t have permission to be at and then refused to leave the premises. Some neighbors allege the kids had also been fighting. Regardless, the footage is pretty striking and now stars are sounding off on it.
Katy Perry shared on Twitter that she was “disgusted.” She added, “WAKE UP AMERICA.” Penn Badgley noted he was “floored,” adding, “Is seeing the #McKinney pool party a turning point for the public eye? There’s a deep sorrow and rage percolating.” And David Faustino wrote, “Poolside confrontation puts cops in hot water. (So now they’re beating up children… some of them girls. #ToughGuys.”
In a series of tweets posted on Monday, “Scandal” creator Shonda Rhimes wrote, “This video raises SO many questions about… everything right now. Q1: How hard is it to TO NOT ASSAULT A CHILD? Q2: When will a group of kids of color together stop being seen as a gang/mob and start being seen as AMERICANS. #TakeYourHandsOffOurKids. Q3: My kids didn’t wanna get out of pool today. ANYONE think best way 2 handle is grab ‘em by throat, slam ‘em to ground & cuff ‘em? Hell no. Q4: There are GREAT cops out there. Who also do not want to work in a world with racially biased/racist violent cops. How do we help them? Q5: And how do we make this stop? What are concrete organized ways to affect change? How to end assaults/murders of our kids? I’m not role modeling here. I’m actually ASKING what you all out there are doing. I’m interested to hear/ learn more and tweeples know a lot.”
Horatio Sanz tweeted, “In Hollywood the cops are alot cooler with Pool partys.” Janelle Monae offered “I was once a 14 year old blk girl. I can’t imagine how I would have responded to the world after being abused and degraded by police. Think.” And Sinbad told his followers, “McKinney, Tx we need to find this punk a$$ cops name that put this girls face in the dirt. I MEAN THAT.”
