Celebrities are mourning Kevin Meaney, who died on Friday at age 60. See stars’ tributes and reaction tweets below.
Meaney was a beloved stand-up comedian with a decades-long career that included comedy specials on HBO and Comedy Central. He had multiple gigs on “The Tonight Show,” appeared in Big, and held the title role in the sitcom version of “Uncle Buck.” Other credits range from “Garfield and Friends” to “2 Broke Girls,” as well as Hairspray on Broadway.
Meaney was found unresponsive in his New York home, but no cause of death has been announced. His unexpected passing is now sending shockwaves through the Hollywood comedy community. Kathy Griffin tweeted, “I adored Kevin Meaney. He took me 2 Dodger games. Aspen comfest. We dated (I know, I know) He was the funniest AND sweetest. We LAUGHED! RIP.” Steve Carell posted old footage of Meaney, writing, “R.I.P. Kevin Meaney.”
Rosie O’Donnell also shared video of one of Meaney’s acts, tweeting, “real life – real love – real loss. from the ding ho to here – i love ya kev.” Patton Oswalt commented, “Always thought Kevin Meaney was a brilliant comedian. Then we hung out in Ireland and I found out he was also a terrific person. RIP.” Bob Saget said, “Kevin Meaney. So kind. So damn funny. So sorry for his loved ones for his loss. Rest In Peace dear Kevin.”
