Celebrities React: Kellyanne Conway Says To “Go Buy Ivanka’s Stuff”
Celebrities are reacting to Kellyanne Conway telling Americans to “go buy Ivanka’s stuff.” See reaction tweets from Hollywood stars below.
As Gossip Cop reported, Donald Trump ripped Nordstrom on Wednesday for dropping Ivanka Trump’s line. Many, including a number of stars, questioned the president using his platform to complain on his daughter’s behalf about a decision made by a private company. Now on Thursday, Conway, who works in Trump’s White House administration as a counselor to the president, is under fire for promoting Ivanka’s collection on TV.
During a broadcast interview, in which Conway appeared via satellite from the White House, she said, “This is just — It’s a wonderful line. I own some of it. I fully — I’m going to give a free commercial here. Go buy it today, everybody. You can find it online.” She even said prior to that, “Go buy Ivanka’s stuff is what I would tell you.”
Now Conway is being accused of violating federal ethics laws, which forbid executive branch employees from using the office of the presidency for any private gain or to make product endorsements. And just as celebs slammed Trump for his comment, they’re now blasting Conway for hers. George Takei, for instance, tweeted, “Trump surrogates like Conway are plugging Trump brands, while WE pay their salaries. Enough. Retailers: #NoTrumpBrands @Macys @amazon.”
“Mr. Trump, you — and minions like Kellyanne Conway — are violating the law by endorsing Ivanka’s brand. You work for us, not your daughter,” he wrote in another tweet. Alyssa Milano shared that message, asking, “Care to respond, @realDonaldTrump, @gop @SpeakerRyan @KellyannePolls?!” Along with an excerpt showing the law on this issue, John Fugelsang wrote, Go Buy Ivanka’s Stuff, ppl who can’t afford Nordstrom’s & voted for her dad bc the economy’s so bad. Hey maybe buy a special prosecutor too.”
Josh Gad retweeted MSNBC anchor Christopher Hayes, who said, Pretty sure @KellyannePolls just violated federal law. But, really, who’s counting!” Rosie Perez wondered, “Are we a nation of laws/ethics or not — Where’s are our lawmaker’s spine — Where’s ‘patriots’ outrage for Conway endorsing product made overseas?” Star Jones wrote, These folk just don’t give a damn! How does the advisor to the #POTUS advertise for HIS DAUGHTER’s products?”
“Since enforcement of law @KellyannePolls broke is left to agency she works for, the ‘law & odious’ WH, she’ll skate,” predicted Jeffrey Wright. That prompted Don Cheadle to crack, “Like Tanya Harding [sic], looking for the next victim to kneecap.”
And Chelsea Handler posted, “Trump says his daughter has been treated ‘so unfairly’ by Nordstrom. Oh, was she detained for 19 hours when she tried to enter the store?” A short time later, she tweeted a photo of herself holding Nordstrom shopping bags outside the White House fence. “A Gay, a Muslim, and a Jew hit Nordstrom and then hit @WhiteHouse to give the finger to @realDonaldTrump,” she wrote.
