Celebrities React: Jeff Sessions Did Not Disclose Russia Meetings
Attorney General Jeff Sessions met twice last year with the Russian ambassador, according to the Justice Department, but he denied having any such communications during his confirmation process in January. Celebrities are now reacting to the controversy. See Hollywood stars’ tweets below.
Many Democrats are calling on Sessions to resign over the situation, but his spokesperson maintains that he didn’t mislead senators because he was asked about Russia’s ties to President Donald Trump’s campaign, and not his own. Still, many celebrities are also calling for the attorney general’s resignation.
Debra Messing wrote, “PERJURY charges against Sessions are in order.” Alyssa Milano similarly said, “Perjured himself!!!!” Meanwhile, George Takei offered, “Mr. Sessions. Recuse yourself now,” and Rob Reiner stated, “Sessions lied at Senate hearings. Had contact w/Russia during campaign. NYT backs up story of Russian contacts. Here we go! #Trumprussia.”
In reference to Trump’s address to Congress on Tuesday night, Zach Braff joked, “Sessions lied under oath. But guys… that speech!” Judd Apatow noted, “Sessions met with the Russians. Flynn did too. Trump bragged about knowing Putin. Tillerson, Manafort. Trump kids. DO YOU GET IT YET?” Andy Richter tweeted, “The caption quote ‘Mommy says I am a good boy, and if Mommy says it, that’s good enough for me,’ works for any photo of Jeff Sessions.” And Rosie Perez said, “This is so nerve wrecking! If @jeffsessions did lie #russiagate I hope all our elected officials call for #sessionsresignaton! Investigate!”
Gossip Cop will update as more celebrities react to Sessions not disclosing his meetings with the Russian ambassador.
