Stars Blast Instagram For New Policy Allowing It to Sell Users’ Photos

Celebrities are taking to Twitter to react to Instagram’s new Terms of Service, which says the company can use posted photos in advertisements without notifying or compensating the user.

A number of stars are outraged about the new policy, a result of Facebook’s recent acquisition of the photo-sharing application, and have vowed to cancel their accounts.

Instagram’s new Terms of Service are set to go into effect on January 16, 2013.

Late on Tuesday, Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom did damage-control, and put out a statement that read, “It is our mistake that this language is confusing. To be clear: it is not our intention to sell your photos.”

“Instagram users own their content and Instagram does not claim any ownership rights over your photos,” he added. “Nothing about this has changed.”
