Celebrities React: Hoboken Train Crash
Celebrities are offering prayers and expressing concern after the massive train crash in Hoboken, New Jersey on Thursday. See stars’ reactions below.
Shortly before 9 a.m., a train filled with rush-hour commuters failed to stop as it entered a platform at the Hoboken station, and instead crashed through the terminal’s wall. One person has been confirmed dead, and at least 75 people suffered injuries, including the driver, who is currently hospitalized in unknown condition. It is not yet known what caused the accident, though foul play is not suspected.
Though he’s currently on the West Coast, the tragedy hit home for Kevin Smith. “Woke up to the tragic news of the #Hoboken train crash in my home state of NJ and it’s truly heartbreaking. Stay strong, Garden State,” he tweeted. Val Chmerkovskiy revealed, “Heartbroken over what happened in Hoboken this morning, I took that train into Hoboken for 8years going to school, I can’t believe it. Thinking of all the injured.” New York native Lady Gaga said, “Praying for everyone in Hoboken, NJ whose family members or friends were in the train crash. We’re so sorry, sending love, be strong.”
Zendaya wrote, “Sending my love to everyone involved in the #Hoboken crash, my heart is with you.” Ariel Winter similarly said, “My thoughts and prayers with the Hoboken victims and their families. Sending them love.” Eva Longoria offered, “My heart goes out to all those affected by the train crash in NJ. My prayers are with you!” Marlee Matlin also commented, “I hope that those of you in Hoboken are okay. Such a terrible accident to happen during a daily commute. Sending love.”
Broadway actor Matt Doyle, who lives near the crash site, posted, “Hearing the sirens outside my window. Love to Hoboken. Hope everyone is alright.” Idina Menzel tweeted, “So worried about my friends in Hoboken/Nyc. Terrifying. Sending love to all. Thanks to all doing amazing rescue missions.” Adam Henrique of the New Jersey Devils said, “Thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by the train crash in Hoboken this morning.”
Hillary Clinton also tweeted, “The images from the train derailment in NJ are horrifying. My prayers are with those who lost loved ones and the dozens who were injured. -H.” And Donald Trump said on his page, “My condolences to those involved in today’s horrible accident in NJ and my deepest gratitude to all of the amazing first responders.” Gossip Cop extends sympathies to all affected.
