Celebrities React To FBI Not Charging Hillary Clinton Over Private Emails
FBI Director James Comey announced on Tuesday that the bureau does not recommend criminal charges be brought against Hillary Clinton, who had been under investigation for using her private email server to handle classified information. Stars are now reacting on Twitter to the news that the presidential candidate won’t be indicted. See celebrity reactions below.
Naturally, presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump immediately weighed in on the agency’s ruling. “FBI director said Crooked Hillary compromised our national security. No charges. Wow,” wrote Trump. He later added, “ The system is rigged. General Petraeus got in trouble for far less. Very very unfair! As usual, bad judgment.”
In regard to Comey saying that Clinton was “extremely careless” in using her personal email to send and receive private information, Seth Meyers joked, “Extremely Careless vs. Supremely Reckless!” Meanwhile, Rob Reiner tweeted, “Now that email investigation is behind us, can we focus on keeping the lying, racist, misogynistic fraud @realDonadTrump out of White House.”
One of the reasons the FBI decided not to recommend prosecuting Clinton is over the lack of evidence that she intentionally mishandled classified information. But Bernie Sanders supporter Shailene Woodley doesn’t agree with that explanation. The actress retweeted journalist Michael Tracey, who argued, “Lots of people don’t have explicit ‘criminal intent’ when they commit crimes, but are prosecuted anyway, for far less severe wrongdoing.” Woodley then responded, “Like possessing marijuana. this sh*t makes me sick. it’s not about HRC. it’s about equality amongst all.”
Patton Oswalt mocked Governor Mike Huckabee, who said, “Hillary may not be POTUS, but she’ll be on the Winter Olympic team for ice skating, no one has successfully skated on more thin ice than her.” The comedian then wrote in response, “Zing! If Hillary becomes POTUS, it’ll be US in the POT. ‘Cause she’ll throw us in a pot and, uh, something?'”
Conservative actor James Woods said, “It is now clear that #HillaryClinton could set fire to a school bus full of children and get away with it.” And now that the email scandal has been settled, Star Jones expressed, “Can we move on!” Gossip Cop will update as more celebrities react to the FBI not recommending criminal charges against Clinton.
