Celebrities are reacting to Donald Trump tweeting that Meryl Streep is “overrated” after she slammed him at Sunday’s 2017 Golden Globes. See stars’ reaction tweets below.

As Gossip Cop reported, Streep used her Cecil B. DeMille Award speech to rip into Trump, though she didn’t actually mention him by name. It was clear, though, that she was talking about the president-elect, and now he’s slamming back. After first issuing a brief response to the New York Times, Trump took to Twitter on Monday to tweet out his criticism.

“Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn’t know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes,” Trump wrote. “She is a Hillary flunky who lost big.” And then, in reference to one of Streep’s comments, he added, “For the 100th time, I never ‘mocked’ a disabled reporter (would never do that) but simply showed him ‘groveling’ when he totally changed a 16 year old story that he had written in order to make me look bad. Just more very dishonest media!”

But celebrities are very much on Team Streep with this one. After praising her speech last night, now a few stars are hitting back at Trump for his tweets. Alec Baldwin, for instance, wrote, “If Trump believes that criticism of, opposition to, distaste for his election will eventually subside, he is mistaken. It’s just starting.”

Posted Billy Eichner, “It doesn’t matter what Trump thinks of Meryl. What matters is he’s ignoring American intelligence agencies, which is a threat to our nat’l security, pushing a racist to be Attorney General & Congress sidestepping standard ethics reviews of cabinet members. FOCUS ON THAT.”

“At some point (in a week) you’re gonna have to stop googling yourself and run the free world, Lily Allen said to Trump, adding, “sad.” Referring to Hitler, Ricky Gervais tweeted, “Fascists used to have a much better sense of humour about Hollywood actors mocking them :).” Judd Apatow said of Streep, “She is over rated as an actress like Michael Jordon is over rated as a basketball player or Sully as a pilot or Ted Williams at baseball.”

Ron Howard wrote, “Trump takes the bait & calls #MerylStreep overrated?! Please Pres-Elect. Don’t make this into the WWF which is fun but not presidential.” Keri Hilson urged, “No President should be tweeting like this. Grow tf up.” George Takei said, “What a small, small man. SAD!” Margaret Cho told Trump, “So overrated is one word. Don’t start telling legends what they can and cannot do. The word for today is JOB. Focus on your JOB.”

“So, like, who does he think is an UNDERrated actress? #tryingempathy,” posted Taran Killam. Chelsea Handler observed, “The reality of our next prez tweeting about actors and reality shows ratings has turned this whole thing into a reality show. #growapair.” Emmy Rossum similarly said, “The president elect is tweeting about reality stars and actors. Don’t you have a JOB TO DO?”

Stephen King also tweeted, “Trump’s response to Meryl Streep — childish, churlish, petulant — is exactly why most Americans fear his presidency. Emtoionally [sic] munqualified.” Joy Behar cracked, “Trump says Meryl Streep is overrated. Well, she’s no Scott Baio!” Andy Cohen also wrote, “She’s no Scott Baio!”

“Didn’t think it was possible to dislike Trump any more than I already do, until he called Meryl Streep “overrated…,” commented Greyson Chance. Cynthia Erivo pointedly wrote, “Ok, but, I mean all those oscars …..NVM. Distracted again.” Michelle Trachtenberg remarked, “Ladies and gentlemen, the role of our future president shall be played by this #bully #MerylStreep #StillWithHer.”

Patton Oswalt taunted, “ha ha you can’t get any celebrities to come to your dumb inauguration ha ha ha it’s hurting your feelings so bad HAHAHAHAHA.” Don Cheadle also said, “Thinnest Skinned World ‘Leader’ award goes to…” And Rosie O’Donnell replied to Trump, “The worlds best actress spoke the truth about you – the world worst human and biggest liar #TheResistance #uSUCK.”
