Celebrities React: Donald Trump Immigration Speech
Donald Trump delivered his immigration speech in Phoenix, Arizona on Wednesday, hours after meeting with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, and now celebrities are reacting. The GOP presidential nominee talked about building a wall along the Mexican border, wanting to “choose immigrants” who will be allowed to live in the U.S., and deporting “dangerous criminal illegal immigrants.” See stars’ reactions to Trump’s immigration speech below.
Among the points Trump made were that the U.S. will build a wall on the Mexican border, and “they’re going to pay for the wall.” The GOP presidential nominee also remarked he will “create a new special deportation task force focused on identifying and quickly removing the dangerous criminal illegal immigrants in America who have evaded justice.” He further expressed that he’ll make sure immigrants are vetted for their “views about honor killings, about respect for women and gays and minorities, attitudes on radical Islam.” “It is our right as a sovereign nation to choose immigrants that we think are the likeliest to thrive and flourish and love us,” added Trump.
Debra Messing tweeted, “Next Trump will say he’ll put ID chips into anyone coming into the country.” Josh Groban joked, “Seriously though someone set his mic gain and echo settings to ‘dictator’ today.” And Arsenio Hall wrote, “I’ve heard most of Trump’s speeches. And I’m convinced of one thing! He’s gonna be REAL busy on that ‘first day’ in office.”
In response to Trump also reaching out to African-American and Latino voters in his speech by saying, “What do you have to lose?” Star Jones responded on Twitter, “Every single thing that every single person who came before us sacrificed to move us forward.” And John Legend expressed, “Some people talk to Americans of color like they own the place and WE should be grateful guests. We own the place together, buddy. Sorry.” Sophie Bush tweeted, “Horrifying. Truly. So much for being a nation that lives up to the words on the Statue of Liberty… smh.” Gossip Cop will continue to add celebrity reaction to Trump’s immigration speech in Arizona.
