Celebrities React: Donald Trump Says “2nd Amendment People” Can Stop Hillary Clinton
Donald Trump said during a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina on Tuesday that “Second Amendment people” can stop Hillary Clinton from appointing Supreme Court justices if she wins the presidential election. Celebrities are now reacting to what some perceive as a suggestion that his rival be shot. See stars reactions below.
“Hillary wants to abolish, essentially abolish, the Second Amendment,” Trump said. “By the way, and if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know.” Clinton’s camp immediately responded to Trump’s remark about citizens bearing arms against the Democratic nominee to prevent her judicial picks. A spokesperson for Clinton said in a statement, “This is simple — what Trump is saying is dangerous. A person seeking to be the president of the United States should not suggest violence in any way.”
However, the Trump campaign has denied that the Republican nominee’s comment was a proposal to harm Clinton. A campaign spokesperson insisted Trump was referring to the “power of unification” among Second Amendment supporters, who “have amazing spirit and are tremendously unified, which gives them great political power.”
But many celebrities aren’t buying the explanation from Trump’s camp, including Albert Brooks, who tweeted, “Donald Trump just asked his supporters to basically kill Hillary Clinton. Does he withdraw today or does this keep going?” Zach Braff similarly wrote, “Casually hinting at murder. Is this the pivot? #goodtimes.” And Rachel Dratch asked, “Serious question as my law knowledge only comes from watching LA LAW, not even Law and Order…can Trump’s comment b considered criminal?”
George Takei joked, “If we had to drink every time Trump reached a new low, we’d all be wasted ‘AF’ as the young folks say.” Jesse Tyler Ferguson noted, “Well @realDonaldTrump just suggested his supports could use the 2nd Amendment to “stop” Hilary. Happy Tuesday,” to which his “Modern Family” co-star Sarah Hyland directly responded with a frowning face emoji. Patricia Arquette expressed, “#Trump has just nailed his own coffin. He has just convinced his own party that he is a complete lunatic.”
An exasperated Josh Groban said, “Enough. GOP and Dems disagree on things but for crying out loud do the right thing now.” And Samantha Ronson offered, “So we have a man running for president who just suggested that, if he loses, someone shoot our elected President.” Stephen King tweeted, “Wait a minute. Just reading down my Twitter feed. Trump said WHAT???” And Andy Cohen quipped, “At the end of every day I log onto twitter and search “Trump” to find out what moronic thing he did today. He has never let me down!”
Judd Apatow responded directly to a tweet by Sean Hannity, which had a link to a “point-by-point breakdown” of Trump’s economic plan. The comedy director retorted, “How about a point by point breakdown of him talking about having [Clinton] shot? Do you have any senses to come to?” Patton Oswalt also tweeted a comment directly to Hannity, saying, “C’mon, @seanhannity. This is your moment. Donald needs you. Dig deep and…SPIN! SPIN LIKE THE WIND! #2ndAmendment.” Gossip Cop will update as more celebrities react to Trump’s Second Amendment comment.
